Abstract

Employee training and development have become increasingly important in enhancing organizational effectiveness, productivity, and long-term sustainability in today’s competitive business environment. Organizations across both public and private sectors continuously invest in workforce development initiatives to improve employee competence, adaptability, and overall performance. Despite these investments, many organizations still experience low productivity, poor service delivery, reduced employee commitment, and operational inefficiencies due to inadequate or ineffective training programmes. This study therefore examined the impact of employee training and development on organizational performance, with particular emphasis on how training initiatives influence employee productivity, efficiency, and organizational growth.

The study adopted a descriptive survey research design using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Primary data were collected through structured questionnaires administered to employees across selected organizations. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistics, regression analysis, and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) to determine the relationship between training and organizational performance. Findings from the study revealed that employee training and development significantly improve workers’ productivity, job performance, efficiency, motivation, and overall organizational effectiveness. The study further found that organizations that invest consistently in staff development programmes are more likely to experience improved operational performance, innovation, employee retention, and competitive advantage.

However, challenges such as inadequate funding, poor training implementation, lack of management support, and insufficient evaluation mechanisms were identified as barriers to effective workforce development. The study concludes that continuous employee training and development remain essential for organizational success in a rapidly changing business environment. It recommends that organizations should prioritize regular capacity-building programmes, adopt modern training methods, and establish effective evaluation systems to maximize training outcomes and enhance overall performance.
