ABSTRACT
In today’s competitive business environment, startups face significant challenges in achieving sustainable growth and profitability. Innovation alone no longer guarantees success; rather, the ability to understand and respond to target market needs has become a critical determinant of survival. This paper explores strategic approaches that enable startups to align products and services with customer expectations through market research, segmentation, consumer behavior analysis, and customer-centric business models. Using a qualitative methodology supported by secondary data, the study synthesizes theories such as consumer behavior frameworks, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, and market segmentation models to highlight how startups can identify and address customer pain points. A case study of Warby Parker illustrates the practical application of these strategies, demonstrating how affordability, style, and convenience were integrated into product development to achieve rapid growth and market disruption. Findings emphasize that startups adopting data-driven decisionmaking, feedback loops, and phased product development approaches are better positioned to reduce risk, optimize resources, and build customer loyalty. The paper concludes that understanding target market needs is not only a strategic imperative but also a pathway to competitive advantage, efficient resource allocation, and long-term sustainability. Recommendations include leveraging affordable market research tools, integrating continuous feedback mechanisms, and prioritizing adaptability to evolving consumer preferences.
